Install M-Files Process Maps
M-Files Process Maps is installed as vault application using the MF-Admin.
M-Files Process Maps provides a server piece and client UI extension which represents both, the Designer to create maps and the Viewer for the interactive consumption of your maps. Also M-Files Web is enhanced, so that it can provide access to the maps.
M-Files Process Maps is delivered as an .MFAPPX File, which is installed via the M-Files Admin console using Admin rights. During installation it enhances the vault structure with a server piece, called vault application, a client UI-extension and some additional objects, classes and views. It also installs some sample data and configuration information in the named value store.
Before the installation
As with any severe change that you apply to a vault structure, it is recommended to try it out in a development or test environment, prior to changing the production instance. And as always, please create a full back-up, so that you can revert to this state if something went wrong.
Install the Application with MF-Admin
To install the MFAPPX Vault application, please follow the following steps:
- Start MF-Admin.
- Select the target vault.
- Right-click on the vault name, choose “Applications”
- In the dialog choose “Install…”
- Select the application file with the “.MFAPPX” extension.
- Answer “yes” to the question “Do you want to restart the document vault now”.
Note: Please give the server some time to install and initiate the application. This may take up to multiple minutes!
- Click on “License…” and select the .LIC file that was provided by M-Files. Apply the license.
- Check if the vault application is both activated and properly licensed.
Congratulations, you have successfully installed the application on the server.
Distributing the application to the Client
After a vault-specific client application has been installed via M-Files Admin, it is available for M-Files Desktop users. Upon logging into the vault, M-Files prompts you to enable the new application. If the Administrator requires the application to be enabled, you cannot log in and use the vault until you have approved the use of the application.
You can manage computer-specific client applications by pressing the Alt key and selecting Settings > Applications from the menu bar.
- Log out from the selected vault, if already logged in. (Note: The log out performed from the M-Files notification area icon is the most secure one.)
- Log into the selected vault. This transfers the installation file from the server and executes a silent installatiom in the client environment.
Note: This may take up to a minute the very first time. Allow the following new application to run. Give it some time. First time installation may take up to a minute.
Check the results of the installation
To verify the successful installation on server and client you can go through the following list:
- In MF-Admin you can see if the following Process Map Object and the corresponding classes have been created:
- In MF-Admin go to ‘Configuration’ and ‘Other Applications’ to see the different entries of the tree. Here you can also find a brief dashboard with the logo.

- You may have to resize the window. Resize it accordingly.
- Then create a simple drawing.
- Click ‘Save’ in the toolbar and check-in the Object.
- You should now be able to expand the object to see connected files forming the map:

- PMAP.XML – your drawing.
- If you select the object, the map preview tab toolbar is shown together with the drawing.
